FCC expands use of 12.2 – 12.7 and 12.7 – 13.25 GHz frequency band

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. released Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking FCC 23-36 on May 19, 2023, to expand the use of 1050 MHz in the 12 GHz band for terrestrial and satellite communications systems, promoting technological innovation and bolstering the growth of the nation’s economy.

The rules reserve spectrum in the 12.2-12.7 GHz band for current and future satellite services and propose measures to allow use of the 12.7-13.25 GHz band for terrestrial wireless services, such as 6G services.
