The 20th Global Meeting of Regulators (GSR2024) convened in Kampala from July 1 to 4, 2024, hosted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). This annual event brought together telecommunications and ICT regulators, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss regulatory issues. Themed “Regulation for Impact,” the meeting focused on achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, emphasizing capacity building, standards development, and digital inclusion. Discussions highlighted the need for digital identity, data security, and resilient infrastructure amidst global challenges. The event also saw the signing of the GSR2024 best practices document, signaling a commitment to bridging digital divides through education and safe technology adoption. Participants, including dignitaries like Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin and Ugandan leaders, stressed accelerating technological advancements and inclusive development. The session concluded with plans for a broadband infrastructure mapping platform in Africa and emphasized international collaboration and responsible regulation for a sustainable digital future.
