Regulatory Initiatives Foster 5G Network Deployment

On October 10, 2024, the National Authority for Public Services (ASEP) emphasized its commitment to advancing telecommunications networks, particularly through the deployment of 5G technology in Panama. Zelmar Rodríguez Crespo, ASEP’s general manager, participated in the launch of 5G by Más Móvil Panamá, highlighting the importance of regulatory standards that facilitate the adoption of new technologies.

Rodríguez expressed satisfaction with Panama’s leadership in embracing 5G, which promises faster connections and opportunities for digital transformation, particularly in public services. ASEP has fostered conditions for operators to introduce 5G through pilot tests and modifications to technical regulations, making additional spectrum available in the 2.5 and 3.5 GHz bands.

She noted that the rollout of the 5G network will be gradual, targeting customers with compatible devices in specific areas, and emphasized the need for awareness initiatives by the operators. Rodríguez reiterated ASEP’s commitment to supporting the development of telecommunications networks and ensuring the highest standards of security and quality, collaborating with operators like TIGO and Más Móvil Panamá for the benefit of users.
