The Wi-Fi Alliance and the Faculty of Medicine at Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, have successfully completed a seven-month pilot project exploring the use of 6 GHz Wi-Fi technology in healthcare. The trial, which took place at the Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute in Bali, demonstrated how 6 GHz Wi-Fi can enhance medical education and training by supporting high-speed streaming, AR/VR applications, and data-intensive tasks in dense environments.
The pilot, integrated into the hospital’s curriculum, highlighted the benefits of unlocking the full 6 GHz spectrum, improving network capacity and connectivity while reducing congestion. This supports advanced technologies like AR and VR for real-time medical applications. The project is seen as key to improving healthcare delivery in Thailand and contributing to the country’s broader digital transformation in line with its National Vision 2030.
The event featured a collaborative workshop with industry leaders and stakeholders, including Intel, Meta, and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), discussing the future of Wi-Fi technology in healthcare. The successful trial underscores the importance of regulatory access to the full 6 GHz spectrum for high-performance connectivity and fostering innovation in sectors like healthcare, telemedicine, and medical research.
