The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has published a Position Paper on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technologies to promote innovation, security, and economic growth in Qatar. The Paper outlines a comprehensive regulatory framework to ensure secure, interoperable, and investment-friendly environments for Service Providers and businesses. Key goals include addressing current regulatory gaps, enabling flexible yet secure scaling of emerging technologies, and improving service reliability for consumers. It supports business and investment growth, positioning Qatar as a regional leader in digital innovation. CRA’s Technical Affairs Director, Mr. Ali Al-Suwaidi, highlighted IoT’s role in smart cities and sustainability, stressing the need for robust regulation aligned with global standards. The initiative aligns with Qatar’s broader digital transformation goals under the Qatar National Vision 2030 and related national strategies, aiming to foster a thriving, knowledge-based economy.
