Thailand to Reserve 100 MHz from 4800 MHz Band for Private 5G Deployment

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand has announced plans to release 100 MHz of spectrum within the 4800 MHz band to support the development of 5G private networks.

Under the new framework, factories and enterprises may request spectrum allocation free of charge for non-commercial use, provided it is applied to enhance internal operations. Organizations may also collaborate with equipment vendors or telecom service providers to deploy and manage 5G private network solutions.

Enterprises seeking to operate as Private Network Operators (PNOs) will be required to participate in an auction process to obtain usage rights in the 4.8 GHz band. While telecom operators may also participate as PNOs, licensees are prohibited from offering consumer mobile services or combining this band with existing 2600 MHz holdings, ensuring that the allocation remains dedicated to private network development.

This initiative aims to accelerate Thailand’s industrial digital transformation by fostering innovation and localized 5G applications across manufacturing and enterprise sectors.
