The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) have implemented the first mandatory phase of a unified charging port policy for electronic devices sold in Saudi Arabia, effective 1 January 2025.
Under the regulation, a range of consumer electronics—including mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers, portable gaming consoles, headphones, speakers, keyboards, mice, navigation systems, and wireless routers—must be equipped with a USB Type-C charging port to be legally marketed in the country.
A second phase will take effect on 1 April 2026, extending the requirement to laptops.
Manufacturers and importers must ensure compliance with relevant technical standards, including the SASO IEC 62680 series, and update IECEE certification documentation and test reports accordingly. Non-compliance may impact certification validity and market access. For more Information Kindly reach out to: typeapproval@5mglobal.com |
