NTC Launches Public Consultation on Updated Technical Requirements for Short Range Devices

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines has opened a public consultation on proposed amendments to Section 2 of Memorandum Circular No. 03-05-2007. The proposed revisions focus on updating the technical requirements applicable to Short Range Devices (SRDs), particularly equipment used for movement detection and alert applications.

The draft circular aims to modernize existing regulations by refining frequency allocations and maximum equivalent isotropically radiated power (e.i.r.p.) limits, ensuring efficient spectrum utilization and alignment with evolving wireless technologies.

Proposed Frequency Bands Covered:

2400 – 2483.5 MHz
9200 – 9975 MHz
13.4 – 14.0 GHz
24.05 – 24.25 GHz
77 – 81 GHz

The proposed changes are intended to facilitate cost-effective spectrum access while supporting the deployment of advanced wireless devices and applications.

Impact on Manufacturers

Manufacturers and importers of radio equipment should review the proposed technical parameters and assess their impact on existing products as well as future product development plans. Once finalized, compliance with the updated requirements will be mandatory for obtaining and maintaining type approval in the Philippines.

The NTC has also emphasized that the prescribed technical limits must not be exceeded by any operational function of the equipment. Companies are therefore encouraged to evaluate product specifications early and participate in the consultation process where applicable.

Stakeholders should closely monitor the outcome of the consultation and prepare for potential compliance adjustments following the issuance of the final circular.
