Chile’s Subsecretariat of Telecommunications (SUBTEL) has published Resolution No. 966 Exenta, amending the country’s technical standard for Short-Range Devices (SRDs). The updated regulation modernizes the existing framework by introducing provisions for emerging radio technologies, simplifying administrative procedures, and providing greater flexibility in product labelling and documentation.
The key amendments include the introduction of a new category for low-power active implantable medical devices operating in the 9–315 kHz frequency band, subject to specified field strength limits. In addition, manufacturers now have greater flexibility in the design and size of QR code labels, while maintaining readability requirements. SUBTEL has also streamlined the submission of confidential technical documentation by allowing manufacturers to submit restricted test reports via designated email or the Virtual Filing Office.
These changes are intended to reduce regulatory burdens and facilitate market access for manufacturers of short-range radio equipment, particularly medical devices. Companies planning to place SRDs on the Chilean market should review their product labelling, technical documentation procedures, and device specifications to ensure compliance with the updated requirements.
