Singapore IMDA Introduces Updates to Equipment Registration Requirements

Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has introduced updates to its equipment registration framework, effective 27 August 2026, to expand digital registration options and strengthen compliance requirements. Eligible IoT equipment, including NB-IoT and CAT-M modules, can now be registered under the Simplified Equipment Registration (SER) scheme. New eUICC technical specifications have also been introduced for consumer and M2M eSIM devices.

Additionally, online registration is now available for Residential Gateways complying with IMDA TS RG-SEC Issue 2 and for all M2M equipment, including those using overseas SIMs. Cellular Mobile Terminal applications now allow direct selection of Bands 26 and 28, with FCC test reports required for Band 26. IMDA has also reiterated that 2G connectivity must be disabled by default, with non-compliant handsets subject to removal from its registration records after 31 December 2026. Suppliers of Residential Gateways must also transition to Issue 2, as registrations of non-compliant models will be cancelled after 31 December 2027.
