In 2020, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the National Coordination Committee for Frequency Spectrum, led by Dr. Mohammed Al-Tamimi, Governor of the Communications, Space, and Technology Commission. The committee’s goal is to ensure the optimal and effective use of the frequency spectrum, promote interference-free radio services locally and internationally, and enhance cooperation between government agencies. It also aims to ensure fair access to frequencies across national sectors, encourage modern radio technologies, and support the Commission’s management of the frequency spectrum. The committee’s responsibilities include coordinating the national spectrum strategy, supporting local and international spectrum coordination, implementing the national spectrum plan, and addressing military and security agencies’ needs. Additionally, it is involved in collecting financial compensation for frequency use and tackling spectrum-related issues. The committee also includes a national team preparing for the 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference and an advisory team focused on research trends in radio spectrum, aiming to strengthen partnerships between government, private, and research sectors, boosting local innovation and enhancing the Kingdom’s global role in radio technologies. |
