| Pretoria – The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has launched its Electronic Frequency Information System (EFIS) following the publication of the National Radio Frequency Plan (NRFP) 2026, marking a significant step in the Authority’s ongoing efforts to modernise spectrum management and improve public access to radio frequency information. The newly launched EFIS provides an enhanced digital platform that enables users to access comprehensive spectrum information through an interactive and user-friendly interface. Designed as more than a digital version of the National Radio Frequency Plan, the system offers a dynamic representation of South Africa’s frequency allocation table and serves as a centralised gateway for spectrum-related information, improving transparency, accessibility, and stakeholder engagement. Commenting on the launch, Councillor Andrew Matseke, Chairperson of the NRFP Committee, said: “The launch of EFIS demonstrates ICASA’s commitment to building a modern, digital, transparent, and efficient spectrum management environment. EFIS will enhance regulatory efficiency and support South Africa’s digital future.” The platform enables users to easily navigate the full National Radio Frequency Plan, search specific frequency bands, and access related regulatory and technical information. It also provides direct access to supporting resources, including applicable ITU-R Recommendations, national and international footnotes, international frequency allocations, and other key reference documents, all of which can be viewed and downloaded from a single platform. The introduction of EFIS represents an important milestone in ICASA’s digital transformation programme and brings South Africa’s spectrum management practices further into line with international best practices. By transforming the traditionally static National Radio Frequency Plan into an interactive digital resource, ICASA has made spectrum information more accessible, transparent, and practical for regulators, telecommunications operators, equipment manufacturers, researchers, academic institutions, investors, and the wider public. |
