India’s WPC Announces Compliance Requirements for Use of the 5925–6425 MHz Band.

The Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing (WPC) under the Department of Telecommunications has issued a notification on 6 March 2026 detailing new compliance requirements for enabling operation in the 5925–6425 MHz frequency band under India’s updated regulatory framework.

The update mainly affects wireless devices that previously obtained WPC Equipment Type Approval (ETA) for 2.4 GHz and/or 5 GHz technologies while their 6 GHz functionality was disabled during certification. Many of these devices are technically capable of operating in the 6 GHz spectrum but were restricted due to earlier regulations.

Under the revised framework, manufacturers can now re-certify these devices to enable operation in the lower 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz).

To comply with the new requirements, manufacturers must notify WPC within 30 days to cancel previously certified model approvals. Devices that were earlier certified cannot operate in the 6 GHz band until a new ETA certificate is issued. Companies must complete the prescribed re-certification process to obtain updated ETA approval that includes the 5925–6425 MHz frequency band.
