On June 21, 2024, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), Malaysia’s Energy Commission, released the 7th edition of its Guidelines for the Approval of Electrical Equipment. This updated edition introduces a new requirement specifically for Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers, which mandates that all EV chargers must comply with the latest standards.

To accommodate this change, a 1-year grace period has been provided. This grace period allows manufacturers and vendors of EV chargers to adjust their products and processes to meet the new requirements before they become mandatory. This approach ensures a smooth transition to the updated standards and helps maintain safety and performance standards for electrical equipment in Malaysia.
