In 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) made significant regulatory advancements to strengthen digital connectivity in Peru, positioning it as a key driver for social and economic development. These measures included optimizing the Coverage Fee mechanism to improve rural access, regulating infrastructure sharing, and enhancing the radio spectrum for efficient telecommunications. The MTC also introduced environmental initiatives like removing unused overhead wiring and promoting sustainability in telecommunications projects.
Key progress was made with the introduction of 5G technologies, updates to the Telecommunications Law, and the establishment of Line 111 for public safety. Additionally, 24 agreements were signed with regional governments to improve technical capacities and connectivity, alongside international cooperation agreements with organizations in Korea, China, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on issues like online child protection.
