The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt has announced a major regulatory update concerning imported cellular devices in the country.
Effective October 1, 2025, the NTRA will no longer grant type approval or import clearance for shipments of cellular devices that support only 3G technology. The restriction applies to all devices that do not support advanced network technologies such as 4G or 5G.
This move is part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to modernize its telecommunications infrastructure and encourage the adoption of newer and more efficient mobile technologies across the market.
Manufacturers, importers, and distributors are advised to review their product portfolios and ensure compliance with the updated requirements before the implementation date to avoid delays or rejection of shipments.
Stakeholders are encouraged to transition towards 4G and 5G compatible devices in line with the country’s evolving telecom regulations and digital transformation initiatives. |
