The Nigerian Communications Commission has introduced a Spectrum Roadmap for 2026–2030 aimed at expanding terrestrial IMT spectrum to about 3.8 GHz to support 5G, IoT, and broadband growth.
Key updates include:
* Allocation of 5925–6425 MHz for Wi-Fi 6 and 60 GHz for high-speed systems * Licensing of the 26 GHz band for 5G (2026–2028) and use of 600 MHz for nationwide 5G coverage * Clearance and repurposing of 1427–1518 MHz and 3.3–3.4 GHz bands for mobile services * Development of satellite D2D and Non-Terrestrial Networks in the 694–2700 MHz range
The roadmap also introduces a more flexible regulatory approach, including Dynamic Spectrum Access, a General Authorization framework, and regulatory sandboxes for testing new technologies. |
