The Plenary of the Federal Institute of Telecommunication (IFT), in its IV regular session in 2023, decided to classify the 5925 – 6425 MHz free spectrum as free spectrum and provide technical operating conditions allowing coexistence with existing services in the country.

The 500 MHz classified will make it possible to offer new services with the technology known as WIFi-6E in Mexico. With this classification, it will be possible to meet the short and medium-term demand for free spectrum for communications with Wi-Fi technology, among others that occupy this type of spectrum.

The 5925 – 6425 MHz segment is part of the band known as the 6 GHz band in which the recent WiFi-6E standard operates and, very soon, the evolution to WiFi-7, which allow much higher Internet access connections.
