The TRA Ministry issued a Decree stating that telecommunications equipment and medical devices must meet the requirements of EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU (as amended by Directive (EU) 2015/863 and Directive (EU) 2017/2012) with regard to RoHS restricted substances and their maximum concentration values tolerated by weight in homogeneous materials. The following requirements were established in the document:
cadmium (0.01%)
lead (0.1%)
mercury (0.1%)
hexavalent chromium (0.1%)
polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) (0.1%)
polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) (0.1%)
bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (0.1%)
butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) (0.1%)
dibutyl phthalate (DBP) (0.1%)
diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) (0.1%)
The Ministry proposes to allow placing medical devices and telecommunications equipment on the Omani market only when they prove their compliance with the substance restriction requirements of the RoHS Directive.
The Ministry intends to adopt this Decree in December 2021 and put it in force from July 2022.
