The tender process for the allocation of radio frequencies to support the development of 5G mobile networks in Armenia resulted in the RA Public Broadcasting Corporation being awarded the 2300-2350 MHz and 2350-2400 MHz frequency segments. Following a meeting of the Commission for the Regulation of Services on April 2, 2025, permits for frequency use were granted.
As part of the obligations in these permits, mobile communication coverage, including broadband 5G technology, must be available in at least 60% of urban areas within 3-7 years. This includes key locations such as the “Engineering City,” “Academic City,” airports, and border checkpoints. Additionally, broadband internet coverage, with at least 10% provided by 5G technology, must be available on 98% of the country’s interstate highways.
The competitive allocation of these frequencies resulted in significant financial benefits, with the state receiving 2.5 billion drams from the provision of the frequencies and 1.68 billion drams annually for their use.
