Pakistan CMOs Begin Commercial Deployment of 5G Services

Pakistan has updated its National Frequency Allocation Plan to support the expansion of Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) and align with international standards, impacting both cellular and short-range device manufacturers. Key developments include the commercial launch of 5G services on 19 March 2026, requiring devices to meet local band specifications for PTA approval, the use of the 920–925 MHz band for RFID (which may require hardware adjustments), and the continuation of strict type approval requirements covering SAR, emissions, and frequency stability. These changes are critical for ensuring compliance and shaping product development and market entry strategies.

Radio equipment approval in Yemen is now managed by multiple authorities, with varying enforcement practices across different regions.

Due to the political situation in Yemen, radio product type approval is handled by two separate authorities—MTIT in Sana’a and MTIT in Aden. Certification is currently mandatory in Sana’a, while enforcement in Aden is expected soon, although compliance is not yet fully mandatory there. The same regulatory framework applies across both regions.

Singapore to Enhance Cybersecurity Labelling Requirements for Residential Routers – SINGAPORE

Singapore to Enhance Cybersecurity Labelling Requirements for Residential Routers

Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency (CSA) plans to strengthen cybersecurity labelling requirements for residential routers under its Cybersecurity Labelling Scheme (CLS) to enhance the security of home network devices. The update aims to address evolving cyber risks, improve consumer awareness of device security levels, and encourage manufacturers to adopt stronger security-by-design practices.

As a result, manufacturers will need to meet higher cybersecurity standards, potentially adjusting product design, testing, and certification processes. This initiative aligns with global efforts to improve the security of consumer IoT devices and build more resilient digital ecosystems.

Algeria Implements a New Type Approval Framework for Electronic Communication Equipment

Algeria’s Executive Decree No. 26-97 (2026) introduces a modernised type approval framework for electronic communication equipment, aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and digitalisation. The regulation extends the validity of type approval certificates from three to five years while allowing existing approvals to remain valid until their expiry. It also introduces an electronic application system to streamline submissions and communication with authorities, along with a requirement to submit product samples within five working days.

Additionally, approved equipment will be publicly listed by regulatory bodies, and clear labeling requirements have been established. Overall, manufacturers and importers must ensure compliance with the updated procedures, timelines, and marking obligations to access the Algerian market.

India’s WPC Establishes Compliance Requirements for the 5925–6425 MHz Frequency Band

India’s WPC has introduced new compliance requirements (6 March 2026) to allow operation in the 5925–6425 MHz band under an updated regulatory framework.

The update mainly affects wireless devices previously approved without 6 GHz enabled, even if technically capable. Manufacturers can now re-certify these devices to activate the lower 6 GHz band.

To comply, manufacturers must cancel existing approvals within 30 days, ensure devices do not operate in the 6 GHz band until re-certified, and obtain a new ETA certificate reflecting the updated frequency support.

Vietnam Introduces New EMC Technical Regulation for Mobile Devices Effective February 2026.

The Ministry of Science and Technology has issued Circular No. 52/2025/TT-BKHCN on 31 December 2025, introducing the revised national technical regulation QCVN 86:2025/BKHCN on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) for mobile communications equipment. The regulation will take effect on 16 February 2026.

QCVN 86:2025/BKHCN sets updated EMC limits and compliance requirements for mobile terminals and ancillary equipment used in digital cellular networks, replacing previous EMC standards. The regulation ensures that devices operate without causing or being affected by electromagnetic interference.

Manufacturers and importers must ensure all relevant cellular products meet the new EMC requirements, update testing and conformity documentation, and align assessments with the updated technical standards before placing equipment on the Vietnamese market.

Pakistan Updates Regulatory Framework for Short Range Devices and Terrestrial IoT (Version 1.4)

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released Version 1.4 of its Regulatory Framework for Short Range Devices (SRDs) and Terrestrial Internet of Things (IoT) equipment. Issued on 18 December 2025, the updated framework took immediate effect and replaces earlier versions governing wireless devices in Pakistan.

The revision introduces updated technical and regulatory requirements for SRD and IoT devices, including revised limits on transmission power, duty cycle, and antenna specifications to improve spectrum efficiency and reduce interference.

Under the framework, all SRD and Terrestrial IoT devices must obtain PTA Type Approval before being imported, marketed, or sold in Pakistan, even if the equipment operates under license-exempt conditions. While individual devices remain license-exempt within the prescribed technical limits, companies providing commercial IoT services must obtain formal authorization from PTA.

Manufacturers and importers must ensure their products comply with the updated technical limits, maintain appropriate documentation and test reports, and secure PTA approval prior to market entry to avoid certification or customs clearance issues.
