Algeria Implements a New Type Approval Framework for Electronic Communication Equipment

Algeria’s Executive Decree No. 26-97 (2026) introduces a modernised type approval framework for electronic communication equipment, aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and digitalisation. The regulation extends the validity of type approval certificates from three to five years while allowing existing approvals to remain valid until their expiry. It also introduces an electronic application system to streamline submissions and communication with authorities, along with a requirement to submit product samples within five working days.

Additionally, approved equipment will be publicly listed by regulatory bodies, and clear labeling requirements have been established. Overall, manufacturers and importers must ensure compliance with the updated procedures, timelines, and marking obligations to access the Algerian market.

India’s WPC Establishes Compliance Requirements for the 5925–6425 MHz Frequency Band

India’s WPC has introduced new compliance requirements (6 March 2026) to allow operation in the 5925–6425 MHz band under an updated regulatory framework.

The update mainly affects wireless devices previously approved without 6 GHz enabled, even if technically capable. Manufacturers can now re-certify these devices to activate the lower 6 GHz band.

To comply, manufacturers must cancel existing approvals within 30 days, ensure devices do not operate in the 6 GHz band until re-certified, and obtain a new ETA certificate reflecting the updated frequency support.

Pakistan Updates Regulatory Framework for Short Range Devices and Terrestrial IoT (Version 1.4)

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released Version 1.4 of its Regulatory Framework for Short Range Devices (SRDs) and Terrestrial Internet of Things (IoT) equipment. Issued on 18 December 2025, the updated framework took immediate effect and replaces earlier versions governing wireless devices in Pakistan.

The revision introduces updated technical and regulatory requirements for SRD and IoT devices, including revised limits on transmission power, duty cycle, and antenna specifications to improve spectrum efficiency and reduce interference.

Under the framework, all SRD and Terrestrial IoT devices must obtain PTA Type Approval before being imported, marketed, or sold in Pakistan, even if the equipment operates under license-exempt conditions. While individual devices remain license-exempt within the prescribed technical limits, companies providing commercial IoT services must obtain formal authorization from PTA.

Manufacturers and importers must ensure their products comply with the updated technical limits, maintain appropriate documentation and test reports, and secure PTA approval prior to market entry to avoid certification or customs clearance issues.

Indonesia Issues Updated Technical Requirements for LTE and 5G Devices under KEPMEN KOMDIGI No. 569 of 2025.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has issued KEPMEN KOMDIGI No. 569 Tahun 2025 on 19 December 2025, introducing updated technical requirements for LTE and 5G (IMT) devices operating in Indonesia. The regulation replaces the previous KM No. 352/2024 and aligns certification rules with the country’s latest spectrum management framework.

The new regulation sets updated technical specifications for LTE and 5G New Radio equipment, including requirements related to emission limits and frequency stability.

Devices supporting the b41 (LTE) and n41 (5G) frequency bands that are already certified will be required to undergo re-certification under the new standard starting 19 January 2026.

Manufacturers with existing certificates for products operating on these bands must conduct updated testing and submit revised certification applications to maintain compliance and market access in Indonesia.

Saudi Arabia Introduces Mandatory USB Type-C Charging Port Requirement.

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) have implemented the first mandatory phase of a unified charging port policy for electronic devices sold in Saudi Arabia, effective 1 January 2025.

Under the regulation, a range of consumer electronics—including mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers, portable gaming consoles, headphones, speakers, keyboards, mice, navigation systems, and wireless routers—must be equipped with a USB Type-C charging port to be legally marketed in the country.

A second phase will take effect on 1 April 2026, extending the requirement to laptops.

Manufacturers and importers must ensure compliance with relevant technical standards, including the SASO IEC 62680 series, and update IECEE certification documentation and test reports accordingly. Non-compliance may impact certification validity and market access.

India’s WPC Announces Compliance Requirements for Use of the 5925–6425 MHz Band.

The Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing (WPC) under the Department of Telecommunications has issued a notification on 6 March 2026 detailing new compliance requirements for enabling operation in the 5925–6425 MHz frequency band under India’s updated regulatory framework.

The update mainly affects wireless devices that previously obtained WPC Equipment Type Approval (ETA) for 2.4 GHz and/or 5 GHz technologies while their 6 GHz functionality was disabled during certification. Many of these devices are technically capable of operating in the 6 GHz spectrum but were restricted due to earlier regulations.

Under the revised framework, manufacturers can now re-certify these devices to enable operation in the lower 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz).

To comply with the new requirements, manufacturers must notify WPC within 30 days to cancel previously certified model approvals. Devices that were earlier certified cannot operate in the 6 GHz band until a new ETA certificate is issued. Companies must complete the prescribed re-certification process to obtain updated ETA approval that includes the 5925–6425 MHz frequency band.

New Homologation Framework for Telecom Equipment Takes Effect in Algeria

Algeria has implemented “Executive Decree No. 26-97”, introducing new procedures for the homologation of electronic communications equipment. The decree came into force on “February 15, 2026”, after publication in the Official Journal, and strengthens oversight by “ANF” and “ARPCE”.

Key changes include extending the “validity of Certificates of Conformity to five years”, introducing a “dedicated electronic platform for homologation applications”, and establishing a “standardized label format”. Certificates will “no longer be nominative”, allowing any local representative or importer to use them for the same approved model. Additionally, each model will “only require approval once”, provided there are no changes to its hardware, software, or country of origin.

The new rules apply to “applications submitted after February 15, 2026”, while earlier submissions will continue under the previous regulations. Existing certificates remain valid until their stated expiry date. The decree aims to “modernize and streamline Algeria’s telecom equipment approval process”.

India DoT Releases Lower 6 GHz Rules for LPI and VLP WAS/RLAN

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of India has issued a notification on January 20, 2026, introducing the Use of Low Power and Very Low Power Wireless Access System, including Radio Local Area Network in Lower 6 GHz Band (Exemption from Licensing Requirement) Rules, 2026. The rules cover the 5925–6425 MHz frequency band and are now officially in effect.

Under the new framework, Low Power Indoor (LPI) devices are permitted a maximum equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) of 1 W, while Very Low Power (VLP) outdoor devices are allowed a maximum EIRP of 25 mW. The rules are designed to facilitate the deployment of wireless access systems without the need for individual licensing, provided the devices meet the specified technical parameters.

The DoT aims to encourage the use of wireless technologies in both indoor and outdoor environments while maintaining efficient spectrum management and minimizing interference with other services. Manufacturers, service providers, and network operators are advised to ensure that their devices comply with the new requirements to benefit from the licensing exemption.

This update aligns India with global trends in the use of the lower 6 GHz band for indoor and low-power wireless connectivity, supporting the expansion of high-speed, low-latency communications across the country.
