The Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL) of Venezuela has recently started issuing type approval certificates with indefinite validity, eliminating the need for periodic renewals for newly approved products.

Under the updated approach, certificates issued by CONATEL remain valid indefinitely, provided that no technical modifications are made to the approved product and no future regulatory changes require reassessment.

This development is expected to simplify compliance management for manufacturers and importers by reducing administrative burdens and long-term certification costs while facilitating continued market access in Venezuela.

Stakeholders are advised to maintain records of approved products and monitor future regulatory updates from CONATEL to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable requirements.

The bidding process for frequency blocks AA’, BB’, HH’, and JJ’ began on Wednesday, organized by the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) and managed by the Caracas Stock Exchange (BVC). The auction, which runs until January 30, is supervised by the National Securities Superintendency (Sunaval) and aims to promote transparent, orderly proceedings through BVC’s technological solutions.

Conatel’s general director, Jorge Márquez, highlighted its importance for telecommunications. This follows a public offer announced in December to enhance connectivity and technological modernization. Service providers submitted their technical, economic, and legal qualifications by January 9. The auction allows providers to acquire spectrum for offering more advanced services. Key industry figures from CANTV, Movilnet, Movistar, and Digitel attended the event.
