CRA Gears Up for an Exciting Calendar of Large-scale International Events

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) is gearing up for several large-scale international events which will be hosted by the State of Qatar at various venues across the country between October 2023 and March 2024.

The international events include the International Horticultural Expo 2023 (Expo 2023 Doha™), the Formula 1® Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2023, MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix 2023, the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, and the World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024.
In light of hosting international events mre stringent approach to licensing and authorization is followed. All radio equipment and frequency users must obtain a radio spectrum license or authorization from CRA. Every entity that wants to use radio devices or equipment must register them and submit frequency applications via CRA’s Special Events Portal or its e-Spectrum Services Portal. Upon submission, all registrations and applications will be evaluated and processed further for issuance of licenses or authorization upon approval, and on receipt of fee payment, where applicable.

CRA ISSUES CLASS LICENSE FOR WI-FI 6E

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has issued a Class License for the use of Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) devices over the lower part (5925 – 6425 MHz) of the 6 GHz band (5925 – 7125 MHz)

CRA announced that effective immediately, the lower part of the 6 GHz band (5925-6425 MHz) is available for the use of RLAN devices

CRA launches Public Consultation on Class License for SRD

The Communications Regulatory Authority of the State of Qatar issued Version No. 4 of the Class License for Short Range Devices (SRD) dated April 22, 2021. The regulation includes an updated list of SRD applications, applicable frequencies, field strength/output power, test references, and other information to which SRDs must comply. Major changes in the new regulation include the following:

  • Bluetooth – the max EIRP was increased from 10 mW to 100 mW
  • Non-Specific SRDs – the frequency bands 24–24.25 GHz and 57–64 GHz were added
  • RFID – the frequency bands 867.6–868 MHz and 400–600 KHz were added
  • WAS/RLAN – the max EIRP for the 5725-5875 MHz band was reduced from 100 mW to 25 mW, and the max EIRP for the 5470-5725 MHz band was increased from 100 mW to 1000 mW

CRA launches Public Consultation on Class License for SRD

To cope with recent technology developments, Communications Regulatory Authority wish to update the Version 3 of Class License for Short Range Devices

The current developments in technology require a revision of the current Version No. 3 of Class License for Short Range Devices. This document specifies the harmonized standards to be used for SRDs. The new Version No. 4 is intended to cover additional applications of radio-communication devices.

CRA issues a public consultation for Wireless Home Area Networks

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) launched a public consultation for the proposed Class License for Wireless Home Area Networks (WHANs). The aim of the consultation is to receive views and comments on the content of the Class License from multi-stakeholders including consumers, telecom service providers, or suppliers and manufacturer of Radio & Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (RTTE) no later than May 21st 2019.

The proposed Class License for Wireless Home Area Networks covers Smart Home Area Systems to enable the automation of electrical home appliances, wireless alert and sensors, as well as lighting automation systems.

Consumers, stakeholders and other interested parties are invited to provide their views and comments in response to the content in this consultation. Comments should be submitted by email to ( type.approval@cra.gov.qa ) or ( spectrumaffairs@cra.gov.qa ). The subject reference in the email should be stated as “Consultation on Class License for Wireless Home Area Networks (WHAN)”.
