Launch of Telecom Market Definition and Assessment Study

KAMPALA, 15-10-2024 – The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has initiated a telecommunications market definition and assessment study aimed at enhancing competitiveness in the industry and identifying barriers to competition. This effort is designed to foster a more favorable business environment.

During a recent stakeholder engagement meeting at UCC’s head office in Bugolobi, telecommunication operators were introduced to the consultancy team responsible for this project. The joint consultancy team, composed of Tilil Technologies Limited and Acacia Economics (PTY) Limited, will conduct the market definition and power assessment.

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate competition within the telecommunications sector, identify market participants, and assess the services and products they offer.

Globally, regulatory bodies conduct such studies to inform regulatory interventions, aiming to enhance industry competitiveness and address barriers that may lead to non-competitive practices, higher prices, and reduced consumer choice.

The UESW portal allows importers and exporters alike to submit their CoC requests, including necessary documents, directly to the preferred service provider.

Benefits of the UESW portal:

1. CoC request submission at any time without work hour limitations

3. Information provided during CoC requests (e.g. product details, HS code information, test reports, invoices) are transferred to the service provider directly, and therefore, information does to need to be shared multiple times

4. A dashboard allows to keep track of your CoC requests

5. Instant updates on UESW portal, when a CoC request is certified
