TRA Bahrain to Host ITU Digital Skills Forum - BAHRAIN

The Kingdom of Bahrain will host the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Digital Skills Forum from September 17 to 19, 2024. The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is leading the event, which will gather global leaders, policymakers, and experts to explore the importance of digital skills for sustainable development.

TRA General Director Philip Marnick emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to a digital-first economy and the forum’s alignment with national goals. The three-day event will cover topics such as bridging the digital divide, the impact of emerging technologies, and skills for secure digital use, offering opportunities for professional networking and insight exchange.

Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, Chief Executive of the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), announced that the iGA made substantial progress in digital transformation, invested in emerging technologies, and improved IT governance policies in collaboration with other government agencies during the first half of 2024. Al Qaed attributed these achievements to the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the insightful guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Gulf Cooperation Council Sets Stage for 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference in Bahrain Meeting

During a recent meeting in Bahrain, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries laid the groundwork for the 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference. The meeting established the group’s structure and formed five working groups to organize and oversee the conference agenda items. Each GCC country will chair a working group to manage the conference’s preparations until 2027. Engineer Hassan Muhammad Hassan, Director of the Frequency Spectrum Department at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, emphasized the importance of these meetings in shaping the future of radiocommunications, particularly in managing resources like frequency spectrum and satellite orbits. The discussions also focused on adapting to modern technology trends such as smart cities, the Internet of Things, and international mobile communications. These regional preparatory meetings are seen as crucial for the success of global conferences, with the 2027 event expected to foster international cooperation and develop strategies for the sector’s advancement. The meetings reviewed papers from Gulf administrations, discussed the conference’s future agenda, and devised a work plan to ensure timely preparations for the 2027 conference.

Governance Committee Advances Bahrain's Tech Infrastructure with 4 Million Dinar IT Projects

The Governance Committee, led by Mr. Muhammad Ali Al-Qaed, CEO of the Information and e-Government Authority, convened its seventieth meeting to discuss information technology projects and purchases totaling around 4 million dinars. Among the key topics were the development of Bahrain’s national geographic information base and upgrading infrastructure for geographic information systems, aiming to enhance data quality and decision-making processes through advanced technologies like GEO AI and BIM. Additionally, discussions covered redesigning Bahrain’s national portal and government app to improve user experience in line with global standards. Projects related to maintenance and support of government systems and educational tools were also reviewed, alongside updates on previous decisions. The meeting was attended by various government officials and experts in the field of information technology.

The Information and e-Government Authority and the Centre for AI Research and Development signed a memorandum to boost cooperation in AI and tech innovation. The agreement aims to expand collaboration, exchange expertise, and promote joint research. It also supports creating an advanced environment for AI research and innovation, providing cutting-edge technology solutions, and fostering economic growth. CEO Muhammad Ali Al-Qaed highlighted the importance of the memorandum in aligning with the government’s vision for enhancing public-private cooperation and investing in technology to improve government services.

The plan aims to reinforce the telecommunications infrastructure, provide high-quality services, encourage innovation and investment in communications technology, in addition to creating an attractive environment for innovative companies in this important field.
