New certificate Format

Jordan TRC recently introduced a new certificate format. One of the important changes is the new format does not mention any requirement to include the TRC Certificate Number as part of the product’s label, which the old certificates required. Following a meeting by our local team with TRC officers, we have confirmed that TRC has suspended the previous label requirement while they consider updates. Newly certified products will not need to include the certificate number as part of the product label. Please contact us for more information.

New type approval procedure in force

On 17th of October Algerian’s Authority AUTORITÉ DE RÉGULATION DE LA POSTES ET DES COMMUNICATIONS ÉLÉCTRONIQUES (ARPCE) has published the new procedure for type approval under “Decision N ° 28 / SP / PC / ARPECE / 2019 du 16/10/2019”.

Here is a short overview of important points to be aware of:

  • The validity of all certificates is 3 years from now on
  • Submitted test reports should not be older than 3 years / same applies tp declarations from manufactuerers as well
  • SAR tests are mandatory
  • The deadline of the evaluation for any application won’t exceed two months

Amendments on RoHS

The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers adopted the Resolution № 557 to amend Resolution № 139 namely the “Technical Regulations on the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment” (Ukrainian RoHS).  

The Resolution № 557 came into force on July 3, 2019 – these are the main points: 

1. The resolution excludes pipe organs product group from the scope. 

2. The compliance deadline of July 1, 2019 has been removed for mercury in electric rotating connectors used in intravascular ultrasound imaging systems capable of high operating frequency (> 50 MHz).  

3. The goal of the resolution is to achieve compliance with the requirements of the EU RoHS Directives: 

  • (EU) 2018/736 as regards an exemption for lead in glass or ceramic for some electrical components
  • (EU) 2018/737 as regards an exemption for lead in solders for the soldering to machined through hole discoidal and planar array ceramic multilayer capacitors
  • (EU) 2018/738 as regards an exemption for lead in cermet-based trimmer potentiometer elements
  • (EU) 2018/739 as regards an exemption for lead as an alloying element in steel
  • (EU) 2018/740 as regards an exemption for lead as an alloying element in aluminum
  • (EU) 2018/741 as regards an exemption for lead as an alloying element in copper
  • (EU) 2018/742 as regards an exemption for lead in high melting temperature solders

MACRA develops new Type Approval regulations

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority MACRA is developing new Type Approval regulations.

According to the draft regulations all electronic communication products require type approval. Products which already have a recognized approval from ITU Region 1. eg have a CE DoC, can apply for a simplified scheme.

We recommend for interested parties to check the draft regulations and especially the Schedule 2, which lists the recognized ETSI standards.

MCMC revised Technical Code for Short Range Devices

On 6 May 2020, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) registered the 2nd revision of the Technical Code for Short Range Devices “MCMC MTSFB TC T007: 2020”, which cancels and replaces the previous version MCMC MTSFB TC T007: 2014.

The main modification are as following:

  a) Update the frequency bands and maximum transmit power limits for generic and specific SRD applications to be aligned with the latest Class Assignment No. 2 of 2019; 

 b) Inclusion of technical requirements for new SRD applications such as Ultra-Wideband (UWB), inductive device and automotive radar based on the latest Class Assignment No. 2 of 2019; and  

c) Inclusion of new technical requirements for electrical safety and EMC for devices that can be directly connected to the service provider’s network.

CRA issues a public consultation for Wireless Home Area Networks

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) launched a public consultation for the proposed Class License for Wireless Home Area Networks (WHANs). The aim of the consultation is to receive views and comments on the content of the Class License from multi-stakeholders including consumers, telecom service providers, or suppliers and manufacturer of Radio & Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (RTTE) no later than May 21st 2019.

The proposed Class License for Wireless Home Area Networks covers Smart Home Area Systems to enable the automation of electrical home appliances, wireless alert and sensors, as well as lighting automation systems.

Consumers, stakeholders and other interested parties are invited to provide their views and comments in response to the content in this consultation. Comments should be submitted by email to ( type.approval@cra.gov.qa ) or ( spectrumaffairs@cra.gov.qa ). The subject reference in the email should be stated as “Consultation on Class License for Wireless Home Area Networks (WHAN)”.
