CST issues Roadmap for Using 5.9 GHz Band for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Systems

The Communication, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) has issued its Roadmap for Using the 5.9 GHz Band for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Systems.
The roadmap aims to define CSTs strategic direction to provide frequency spectrum needed for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Systems in the Kingdom.

It includes:

  • – V2X applications and types of communications
    – The development of V2X technologies
    – International regulatory approaches
    – Enable V2X communication systems in the Kingdom

Oman’s TRA announces shutdown of 3G services

In an announcement made by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) stated that it intends to carry out a limited trial of third generation services shutdown, according to plans prepared in coordination with mobile network operators.

The trial aims to identify potential challenges in preparation for the gradual shutdown planned from the third quarter 2024.

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has announced intention to indefinitely extend the use of CE marking recognition beyond 2024 deadline for businesses, applying to 18 regulations owned by DBT. The extension will allow for more efficient and cost-effective pathways for products to enter the UK market

SDPPI to Implement Local SAR Testing

SDPPI of Indonesia will officially implement Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing on December 1, 2023, beginning with Mobile Phones (Head Test Method) and following with additional devices in the six categories below between 2024 and 2026.

Beginning December 1, 2023, only local test reports published by SDPPI Labs in Indonesia will be accepted for new applications, renewals, and re-certifications. There will be a grace period of 2 years to transition to the new SAR regulation. During this time applicants may submit a test report as previously required for new certificates, renewals, and re-certifications, however they must also provide a statement letter that the product will be tested for SAR at an SDPPI Lab. SDPPI will publish the certificate, and applicants will then have a maximum timeframe of 2 weeks after the certificate is published to provide the SAR test report. The certificate will be cancelled if the test report is not delivered within the timeframe, or if the test result fails.

Open Public Consultation on Assignment Arrangements of Spectrum in 6/7 GHz Band

The Communications Authority (CA) and Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (SCED) of Hong Kong has opened a public consultation on July 18, 2023, on arrangements for the 6570-6770 MHz and 6925-7125 MHz frequency bands in the 6/7 GHz band for public mobile services and to allow for the deployment of 5G mobile networks and services. CA also proposes to allocate the 6425-7075 MHz band for mobile service in addition to the current allocation for fixed service and fixed satellite service (Earth-to-space). The consultation may be accessed here and will be open for comments until August 15, 2023.

The Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is seeking comments on the consultation of SRSP-521 issue 1.  This standard specifies the technical requirements for the efficient use of the band 3900-3980 MHz for non-competitive local licensed services and applies to fixed and mobile systems, including flexible use broadband systems, operating in the band.

SRSP-521 has been developed in accordance with the Decision on a Non-Competitive Local Licensing Framework, Including Spectrum in the 3900-3980 MHz Band and Portions of the 26, 28, and 38 GHz Bands (SPB-001-23). It is designed to ensure the efficient use of the allocated spectrum for non-competitive local licensed services.

CITRA To Ban 2G and 3G Telecommunications Devices

Kuwaiti Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) published a Decision to ban importing cell phone devices that operate only on second(2G) and third (3G) generation technology.

Telecommunications devices that operate only on 2G and/or 3G will be banned from importation and entry to Kuwait beginning September 1, 2023

TEC extends deadline for MTCTE phase III AND IV

The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) issued amendments to extend the deadline for mandatory certification of MTCTE Phase III and IV products.

Deadline for mandatory certification for 32 products (ERs) listed in Annexure-I, is extended from July 1, 2023 to October 1, 2023 

Deadline for mandatory certification for 12 products (ERs) listed in Annexure – II, is extended from July 1, 2023 to January 1, 2024

The last date of acceptance of test reports issue by ILAC accredited lab for technical parameters for products listed in Annexure-III is extended from June 30, 2023 to December 31, 2023
