On January 4, 2023 MIIT Opens Public Consultation on Draft Regulation on 900 MHz Band RFID and UWB Equipment. In order to promote the development of the radio industry, improve the efficiency of spectrum use, and strengthen the management of radio transmission equipment, the Radio Management Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized the “Regulations on the Application of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology in the 800/900MHz Band (Trial)” (No. 〔2007〕No. 205) and the revision of the Regulations on Frequency Use of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Technology (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology No. 〔2008〕354)

Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP) published decision No.226/ARCEP/DG/22 determining the categories and technical conditions for the operation of low-power (LPDs) and short-range devices (SRDs) and the technical conditions for the use of frequencies. The decision now in effect.

Open public consultation on the availability of spectrum in the 700 MHz

The National Communications Authority (Autoridade Nacional de Comunicacoes, ANACOM) has Open public consultation on the availability of spectrum in the 700 MHz on 27 December 2022. This consultation intends to gather the position of the various players in the market regarding current interest in the sub-bands that remain available: 733MHz-758MHz designated as duplex gap, and 694MHz-703MHz and 788MHz-791MHz designated as guard bands, respective conditions of access and use, as well as the applicable timetable for its distribution.

Public consultation closed on 7 February 2023 , preferably submit the comments through Email : cp700duplexgap@anacom.pt .

ACMA Publishes Mobile Equipment Standard

The ACMA published the Mobile Equipment Standard 2022 on December 8, 2022. This Standard replaces the Telecommunications (Mobile Equipment Air Interface) Technical Standard 2018 and requires compliance with 3 new industry standards for 5G customer equipment:

  • AS/CA S042.1:2022 – Requirements for connection to an air interface of a Telecommunications Network – Part 1: General (AS/CA S042.1)
  • AS/CA S042.4:2022 – Requirements for connection to an air interface of a Telecommunications Network – Part 4: IMT-2000 and IMT-Advanced Customer Equipment (AS/CA S042.4)
  • AS/CA S042.5:2022 (incorporating Amendment No.1/2022) – Requirements for connection to an air interface of a Telecommunications Network – Part 5: IMT-2020 Customer Equipment (AS/CA S042.5).

The Mobile Equipment Standard reduces the transition period for compliance with an amendment or replacement to an industry standard to 12 months. This Standard comes into effect on December 22, 2022.

European Union issue new amendment 2022/2380 regards to chargers

The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union promulgated Directive (EU) issue new amendment 2022/2380 Directive 2014/53/EU on the harmonization of the laws of the Member States relating to the making available on the market of radio equipment. The Directive (EU) 2022/2380 was developed to solve such problems as absence of harmonization of the charging interfaces and charging communication protocols in the Member States’ legislation, the lack of interoperability between radio equipment and charging devices that require regulation at Union level. It is expected that the new Directive becomes effective from December 27, 2022.

BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS EXTENDS IS 1293:2019

The Bureau of Indian Standard extended the date of implementation of revised IS 1293 : 2019 superseding IS 1293: 2005 for “Plugs and Socket-Outlets for household and similar purposes of rated voltage up to and including 250 V and rated current up to and including 16 A”.

The last date of implementation is now October 23, 2023.

MCMC Cancels 477 MHz Band for Personal Radio Service Device Use

MCMC announce to cancel 477  MHz Band for Personal Radio Service Device Use. On December 3, 2022 MCMC announcing that the Class Assignment for personal radio service devices operating in the 477.0125-477.4875 MHz and the 477.5250-477.9875 MHz frequency bands will be cancelled on January 1, 2023. Personal radio service devices operating in these frequency bands will no longer be permitted to be used, purchased, and/or imported after this date.

TELECOR Planning to use 3.5GHz

The Nicaraguan Institute for Telecommunications and Posts (Instituto Nicaraguense de Telecomunicaciones y Correos, Telcor) published Administrative Agreement No. 002-2022 plans to use  3.5 GHz band for 5G services on November 24, 2022. TELCOR is initiating the process of planning and defining a national strategy and roadmap for implementing 5G technology in Nicaragua. Authorizations for new assignments, modifications, or changes in the right to use the 3300-3400 MHz, 3400-3600 MHz, and 3600-3700 MHz frequency bands have temporarily been suspended.
